The Uncensored Story

Stripping Away 160 Years of Editorial Bias

  • The Historical Problem: When Thomas Crofton Croker published Holt's manuscript in 1838, he brought a heavy loyalist bias as an official for the British Admiralty and Dublin Castle. He altered parts of the narrative, redacted influential names, and added patronising footnotes to undermine the rebel leader's credibility

  • The Restoration Solution: Edited by Holt's 4x great-grandson, Ian Bosler, this edition removes Croker’s side notes and critical commentary, bringing both Volume 1 (Ireland) and Volume 2 (Australia) together into a single, complete narrative
